About the market

Wholesale investing in New Zealand

What wholesale investing means in NZ

Wholesale investing is governed by the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 (FMCA). Investors who meet specific criteria — typically NZ$1M+ in net financial assets, NZ$200K+ annual income for two consecutive years, a single NZ$750K+ investment, or eligible-investor certification by a licensed adviser — gain access to a parallel market of opportunities that do not require a Product Disclosure Statement and are not available to retail investors. This wholesale-only market spans private credit, venture capital, private equity, property syndicates, first-mortgage funds, forestry, agriculture, infrastructure, and bespoke alternative strategies.

Who's in the directory

Wholesale Investor NZ aggregates current opportunities from vetted New Zealand fund managers, syndication platforms, wealth managers, and angel networks — every provider listed has demonstrated track record, registered FSP status where required, and transparent reporting. Where a fund qualifies for the Active Investor Plus visa we flag it explicitly. Where a manager has approval from NZTE for the migrant-investor pathway, that's surfaced too. Tax-efficient PIE structures, limited partnerships, and unit trusts are filterable side-by-side.

What you need to know before investing

Compared to listed-market investing, wholesale opportunities typically offer higher target returns (7–15%+ p.a. depending on asset class), longer commitment periods (often 3–10 years), lower liquidity, and less day-to-day volatility. The trade-off is that wholesale investors carry primary responsibility for due diligence — there is less FMA oversight, fewer ongoing disclosure requirements, and a smaller body of independent research. Always read the disclosure document, request audited financials, ask about fee structures (management plus performance), and consider speaking to a licensed financial adviser before committing capital.
